Abarrotes Remedios
Task
In January 2026, "The Edge Is the Center" opened its doors at the Rubin Center for the Visual Arts at the University of Texas at El Paso. We were invited to participate in this design exhibition curated by Ana Gaby Becerra and Andrés Payan. 2026 also marks EME's 15th anniversary, and there was no better way to celebrate than by showcasing the work we have created over the years. That is what led us to Abarrotes Remedios. The concept was simple but meaningful: create a space inspired by the neighborhood corner stores "tienditas" that we visited growing up in Mexico. Drawing from those memories, we built our own version: a place where nostalgia, design, and interaction come together. The installation features elements such as baskets, paste-glued posters, a piñata, candy machines, newspapers, and a television, all working together to recreate a familiar experience for visitors. Every detail was carefully chosen to spark an emotional connection with the audience. Abarrotes Remedios "rEMEdies" - Design that heals, was designed to be a fun and accessible experience. Visitors were able to see, touch, and interact with the pieces as if they were shopping at a real corner store. Visitors could even take home printed newspapers and stickers as souvenirs. More than an exhibition, Abarrotes Remedios became a tribute to our roots, our story, and EME's 15 years of creative evolution.
